General description of the retreat's activities

The Hesquiat Wilderness Retreat takes place on a remote section of the west coast of Vancouver Island, accessible from Tofino.
Day 1 (Sunday, July 31) - Meet and greet in Vancouver and transfer to Hi Hostel near Jericho Beach in Kitsilano. Collective swim followed by picnic dinner on the beach or in a nearby restaurant.
Day 2 (Monday, August 1) - Outfitting for bicycles for a full day of cycling. Sites will include Granville Island Market, the Science Centre, English Bay, Stanley Park and the seawall...lunch at Granville Island Market, dinner at Sophie's Cosmic Café.
Day 3 (Tuesday, August 2) - Transfer to Tsawassen ferry terminal to take the ferry to Salt Spring Island. Setting up camp at Ruckles Park. Exploring and sharing the first collective meal prepared by all.
Day 4 (Wednesday, August 3) - Full day of intensive nature training with 'Wisdom of the Earth'. Camping at Ruckles Park.
Day 5 (Thursday, August 4) - Full day of intensive nature training with 'Wisdom of the Earth'. Camping at Ruckles Park.
Day 6 (Friday, August 5) - Full day of intensive nature training with 'Wisdom of the Earth'. Camping at Ruckles Park.
Day 7 (Saturday, August 6) - Departure for Bamfield via Nanaimo, Cathedral Grove and Port Alberni. Setting up camp on Brady's Beach. Picnic dinner around the campfire.
Day 8 (Sunday, August 7) - Application of wilderness skills for foraging and cooking. Wood collection and assignment of daily chores. Orientation and exploration of Bamfield with swimming and beachcombing.
Day 9 (Monday, August 8) - Fishing for wild salmon, black cod, rockfish, crabs and shrimp for a traditional west coast feast. Learning to make 'bannock bread'.
Day 10 (Tuesday, August 9) - Foraging and picnic hike to Kiixin', the ancient village of the Huu-Ay-Yat group of the Nuu-chah-nuhlt people.
Day 11 (Wednesday, August 10) - Visit of the Marine Science Centre followed by a hike and swim at Sarita Falls.
Day 12 (Thursday, August 11) - Pizza bread day. Everyone participates in making dough and seasonings and helping to split wood for the oven.
Day 13 (Friday, August 12) - Drive from Bamfield to Nanaimo to get ferry back to Vancouver. Night at the Hi Vancouver hostel and final farewell dinner in a local restaurant.
Day 14 (Saturday, August 13) - Transfer to airport or bus terminal for departure. (Contact us for your post tour travel plans)
